Various methods of anesthesia can be used to perform oral surgery. During your consultation, you will discuss all of these methods with your surgeon and chose the right one for you. This will depend on the extent of the procedure, your medical history, age and your tolerance levels. Local anesthesia<\/td>\nA local anesthetic is used during\u00a0the surgery and\u00a0the patient stays awake. Local anesthesia is used regardless of other sedation options during oral surgery procedures.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)<\/td>\nThe patient is given a nasal mask through which the gas is administered. Nitrous oxide has both a sedative and analgesic effect.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Intravenous (I.V.) sedation<\/td>\nThe patient is administered medication through an I.V. line and is mildly sedated (or falls asleep) during the procedure.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
