- Do your children take part in activities involving risk of falls or collisions? Make sure they wear a MOUTH GUARD. Ask your dentist to make you a CUSTOMIZED MOUTH GUARD or purchase a pre-formed one in a sporting goods store (Boil & Bite).
- “My child knocked out a baby tooth.” Contact your child’s dentist IMMEDIATELY to minimize discomfort and prevent infection. Rinse the mouth with cold water and apply COLD COMPRESSES to reduce swelling.
- “My child knocked out a permanent tooth.” Find the tooth and rinse it gently in cool water ONLY. REPLACE THE TOOTH in the socket and hold it there with clean gauze or a wash cloth. If you cannot put the tooth back in the socket, place it in a clean container, preferably with cold milk or the child’s own saliva. DO NOT store the tooth in water.
- “My child has a chipped/broken tooth.“ Contact your dentist IMMEDIATELY. Rinse the mouth with cold water and apply COLD COMPRESSES to reduce swelling. If you can find the broken tooth fragment, TAKE IT TO THE DENTIST.
