Post Operative Instructions Exposure of Dental Implants

BLEEDING
• Following certain exposition cases, bleeding can be abundant. Change cottons every 20 minutes, until they are no longer soaked. If bleeding is excessive, bite on a wet tea bag for 45 minutes. Repeat if necessary.

MEDICATION
• You must take all the medications, as prescribed by your doctor.

RINSING
• Do not rinse, spit or smoke for the first 24hrs following your surgery.

HYGIENE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS FOR CROWNS/BRIDGES
• Brush the teeth the same day of the operation, as well as the small silver caps lightly.
• In some cases, it will be necessary to have your “flipper” adjusted (if necessary) by your dentist after this intervention.

HYGIENE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS FOR REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS ON DENTAL IMPLANTS
• Continue to lightly brush the silver caps after the procedure. It is important to continue to brush them daily as part of your daily routine to prevent complications.
• In some cases it is recommended to purchase the Waterpik for improved hygiene.
• You should see the surgeon 2X / year (or more often) for cleanings and oral and general health assessment of dental implants.
• After this intervention, your current dentures will need to be adjusted(relining) by your dentist or denturist to accommodate the caps.
• Do not sleep with your dentures in your mouth (if removable dentures)

PROSTHETIC COMPONENTS
• In some cases, the surgeon will give you PROSTHETIC COMPONENTS to give to your dentist or denturist. It is important to follow the directions carefully.

FOOD
• In certain cases, it is recommended to drink warm or cool liquids and eat soft foods for the first 2-3 days.

DISCOLORATION
• Black, blue or yellow areas may develop around the face and neck (bruising). This is as a result of bleeding into the tissue and is of little significance.

EMERGENCY
• Excessive bleeding or discomfort, abnormal reactions to medication (e.g. rash, itching, vomiting or nausea) warrant an emergency phone call at one of these numbers:

POST-OPERATIVE CARE IS VERY IMPORTANT. PROPER CARE FOLLOWING ANY SURGERY WILL HASTEN RECOVERY AND PREVENT ANY COMPLICATIONS
